The Forest of Dean Autumn 5K Run

This is an opportunity for runners of all abilities and active families to enjoy a run in the Forest before the end of the summer and help good causes in the process. This 5K Run is being organized as a separate event to complement the Forest of Dean Autumn Half Marathon which is being held on the same day. The event is organised by the Rotary Club of the Royal Forest of Dean to support Rotary charities.

We are very grateful for the involvement and support of a host of individual volunteers, together with number of local organisations who make this event successful, including the Forestry Commission and the Speech House Hotel.

Sunday, 29th September 2024
10:15am start

The 5K Run is open to runners of all ages.

Under 16s must have permission from their parent or guardian.

Entry cost:

Those wishing to enter the 5K Run can either do so online or on the day of the race at the 5K Run reception close to the half-marathon chip distribution point. The cost of entry on the day of the race is £15.00 (if spaces are still available).

If you are planning to register on the day, please do so by 09:15 to avoid delays.

This run will use an entirely off-road circular course on firm forest tracks. The track is mostly compacted gravel and as such suitable for running in trainers. There is only one notable descent and climb at around the 2km mark. The route will be well signed and will have marshalls throughout the course.

Drink stations

Water will be available at approximately 2.5km for those that require it. Drinks will also be available at the finish.

All water will be supplied in single use cups. Trained volunteers will only handle the cups after sanitising hands. Runners may wish to bring their own drinks.

Road running shoes or trainers are perfectly acceptable.

Race timing

Race numbers with integrated timing chips will be issued on the day of the race from a tent close to the start area. Please make sure you arrive in good time to park and pick up your race number and chip at least 30 minutes before the event starts at 10:15 am. You will need to show the race number that was notified with your race pack. The collection tent will be open on the morning of the race from 8:00 am and will close at 9:45 am in preparation for the race itself.

Remember to bring some small safety pins to fix your running number to your vest. If you're stuck, some pins will be available.

We will not be collecting the number and integrated chip, so feel free to keep it as a souvenir (or dispose of it thoughtfully)!

Race results

In a change to previous races, the timing services for the forthcoming race will be provided by Rogue Racer, a company with a wealth of experience in supporting similar events.

Results will be available on the day at race HQ and will be available from this web site soon thereafter.

Although there will be no formal prizes for those runners taking part in the 5K Run, there will be souvenirs for each finisher.

Souvenir t-shirts will be available for purchase. There will also be a course photographer.

Emergency & medical

The course will be covered by a network of radio communications to link the race organisers and emergency response crews.

Medical attention will be available from Safeguard Medical Services Ltd who will be stationed near the finish line and at various key points around the race route. Mobile units and Repatriation vehicles will be in attendance. If the need arises, injured runners will be recovered from the course by their ambulance teams.

Information & Safety

An information point will be sited close to the race start and finish.

The course will be fully marshalled to ensure a clear, safe route.
